Description

In every church building, art and architecture become the joint work of the Holy Spirit and the local community, in preparing a place to receive God's Word and to enter more fully into communion with him. In this volume, the bishops offer instruction on how to design places of worship that are dignified, beautiful, and "suited to sacred celebrations."
How Do I Use . . .
  • Plan how to implement the rites all year round including during the seasons of Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter and especially regarding the use of art in the worship space.

5 of 5 Essentials of Build a Sacred Sanctuary February 12, 2020
Reviewer: Pam Connaughton from Plano, TX United States
After a priest well versed in sacred architecture gave an excellent presentation on the styles and rationale behind why altars, baptismal fonts; choirs and devotional areas are placed within a sanctuary;  he referenced Built of Living Stones.  We were unaware for the need to develop a sacred space with emphasis on the sacraments (in particular The Celebration of the Eucharist) rather than "decorating" our sanctuary. Since our initial meeting, I have familiarized myself with Built of Living Stones and taken a virtual workshop from Liturgy Training Publications on  Built of Living Stone. I would like to see every parish and in particular my own study the guidelines and apply them to our new church.  I appreciate the well researched content of how each subject  from the liturgy to the  practical considerations in building a sacred space is presented to the laity as well as to the clergy.

5 of 5 An Excellent Resource for Building a New Church December 16, 2019
Reviewer: Donald Simoneaux from Plano, TX United States
My wife and I are both heavily involved in a campaign at our parish to build a new church. This book was mentioned during a presentation by a priest on the diocese architecture committee, and we find it to be an excellent overview of Church guidelines for matters to consider for such a project.
