This work is a compelling exhortation to all people!

Pope Francis brings together the wisdom of the Church and experiences of the Amazonian people to give reflections on a path forward in the Amazon. He writes this exhortation to the whole world to encourage great respect for Amazonian culture, indigenous peoples, its rich natural heritage, and the flourishing of the Church in the Amazon. The exhortation builds on the synodal process the pope initiated to address the sufferings and inheritance of the Amazon region with its nearly 34 million people, covering nine countries.

In this exhortation, Pope Francis offers encouragement, expresses dreams for the Amazon region, and shares sorrow for the sufferings in the Amazon. This brief but rich exhortation is an easy read that will inspire Christians and global citizens alike. It gives a clear reflection on the plight of indigenous peoples, shares hopes for the ecologically rich region, and offers a joyful vision for the inculturation of the Gospel in diverse cultures. While focused on the Amazon, the pope’s words have timeless application to the dilemmas of peoples, cultures, and regions around the world.

Whether you are a pastor, lay Catholic, religious brother or sister, a Christian, or non-Christian, this exhortation speaks to our common responsibility to care for creation and diverse peoples in the Amazon and beyond.

Pick up this exhortation for a captivating weekend read!—and consider what small part you can play in making these great dreams an incarnate reality.

As I worked in Brazil 22 years I would have liked to see a few more practical steps in dealing with the Amazon region. The theory is beautiful but putting it into practice is another.

I purchased 2 copies in English and 2 copies in Spanish for 4 of us to read and discuss.  Two of us are more comfortable reading in English and 2 in Spanish.  Our discussion will be bi-lingual.

One it arrived the book was what I was looking for.  However, trying to navigate the USCCB website to find how to order the book was a FRUSTRATING process.  It was like playing “where’s Waldo.”

5 of 5 Good read from a wise Pope March 5, 2020

A lot of rumors and concerns were raised about the Amazon Synod, but this book gives the Pope's conclusions. It is a quick read, but a good one. No, there are no changes in church teaching here, but there is real engagement with important issues: the creation care mandate from Genesis, the important contribution of women in the Church (which might have brought an approving nod from a number of saints, e.g. women who are doctors of the Church), and more. It will disappoint those who want radical change, but it does call the church to fulfill the mandates already in church teaching and to do that in the specific context of the Amazon region.
